Episode #40 - "Autism Awareness: When It's No Longer Trending" - feat. Larkin Banister

What is Autism? Where does it come from? What are the signs of autism? These are 3 pretty basic questions to have answered in order to spread autism awareness. But you may be surprised to find out that many people can't answer those questions, but will be quick to share the latest hashtag, or internet challenge. How do we know? Nick Stevenson was among those people. After recognizing that it's not cool to spread fake awareness, we decided to really find out what autism is, from the source that would know best. Our guest Larkin Banister is an #AutismMom of Tallen aka "T" and she sits down with us to talk about the range of emotions from the time of diagnosis, dealing with the everyday challenges, and also realizing that this diagnosis is not a death sentence. It is possible to embrace your child for who they are and live a happy life with them, well on into their adulthood. Larkin won't tell you it's easy, but she will let you know that it is possible. Our hope is that we will spread some true awareness and spread the message of kindness and empathy for autism parents, children, and adults.
